Live Assembly elections 2017 / Results from UP, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa
Live : The BJP is set to register a massive win in Uttar Pradesh, with the party leading in more than 300 of the state's 403 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had led an aggressive campaign in Uttar Pradesh and a big win in the crucial state is being seen as an endorsement of his decision to ban 500 and 1000 rupee notes to combat corruption and black money. The BJP ran a hard-fought campaign to wrest power from Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, which contested this time in alliance with Rahul Gandhi's Congress. The UP assembly election is billed as a semi-final for the 2019 national election.
The BJP has also managed a stellar performance in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh and is leading in more than 50 of the state's 70 seats; the Congress has taken a steep fall and is only ahead in 14 seats. However, in Punjab, the Congress has managed to lead in over 70 seats, and looks set to comfortably form government. Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party, which exit polls predicted will be a close second, is lagging far behind at 27 seats. The Akalis have been decimated in Punjab and are leading in less than 20 seats. Votes are also being counted in Goa and Manipur today. Read More
